Darlington Terrace & Rear Studio

This inner-west terrace was renovated together with a rear extension and a new, separate studio structure at the back of the site. Construction photographs show the site cleared and excavated along the rear laneway, a concrete slab poured and screeded against the boundary, and new brick walls built up two storeys directly against the original terrace's rear wall — tied into the existing brickwork before the new floor and roof structure went in. At the rear of the site, a separate two-storey structure was also built: a garage at ground level with a timber-clad studio, lit by dormer windows, above. Inside the terrace, the kitchen was finished in white cabinetry with a run of timber stairs under a skylight, and the living area was opened onto a timber deck through full-height glazed doors. Two bathrooms were finished in different palettes — one in light stone with brushed-brass tapware, the other in a dark stone-look tile with matte-black fittings — both fitted with a freestanding-style bath and a frameless glass screen. Bedrooms were finished with new joinery and lighting, including one with a loft space reached by a ladder. The result is a renovated terrace with its own rear extension and a separate studio at the back of the site, without altering the character of the original home from the street.
